All candidates for office in New York State must collect the signatures of 5% of the voters in their local district from June 5 through July 12. Only the earliest dated signature counts, so timing is critical.
And with some people on vacation, others working different shifts, and so on, it can be difficult to reach enough voters to get their signature.
And if Marty's campaign doesn't collect enough signatures in time ... he cannot run for re-election.
